| Comprehensive Thyroid Testing | If you’re looking for the most comprehensive thyroid test, this includes the thyroid function tests: * TSH * T4 * T3 * 3 types of thyroid antibodies * Reverse T3 * T3 : Reverse T3 ratio This level of testing is NOT undertaken by your doctor. When your doctor tests your thyroid, they only check TSH. Even then the “normal range” for TSH is questionable. Also TSH is often the LAST thyroid hormone to be affected when things are out of balance. For instance auto-immune thyroid antibodies can be elevated and potentially damaging your thyroid for a long time (up to 5 years) before it finally shows in the standard TSH test. A test that includes thyroid antibodies reveals situations where the immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid and can lead to chronic inflammation of the thyroid (thyroiditis), tissue damage, and disruption of thyroid function. Our test also includes Reverse T3. Reverse T3 (rT3) is virtually inactive having only 1% the activity of T3 and blocks the action of T3 acting as a metabolic break. Normal metabolism of T4 requires the appropriate balance of T3 to rT3.
